Prize of Booksellers WITRYNAIn 2003, the Chamber of Booksellers of Wrocław, with participation of the Portal Księgarski (or Booksellers’ Portal) as a promoter of the Prize, brought into being the Prize of Booksellers WITRYNA awarded for the most important, in their opinion, book of the year. The purpose of this prize is to recognize and honour the most important and valuable books published in Poland in a given year or in the year preceding the current edition of the Wrocław Promotions of Good Books. The booksellers assess the literary, educational and cognitive and editorial values of the books taking into account the opinions of readers as expressed, usually, by the number of books sold. The Jury of the Booksellers’ Prize, comprising the members of the board of the Chamber of Booksellers, selects 3 books with the largest number of recommendations, nominated to the Prize of Booksellers WITRYNA.
WITRYNA and nominations are presented to the publishing houses during the Wrocław Promotions of Good Books.
The Prize – a sculpture of a book shop window by Agata Gwizd-Leszczyńska – is an artistic vision of a book shop window opened to the world, in which it is the books that reign.
